Overview

This skill provides state persistence and automatic recovery for OpenClaw sessions that get interrupted by:

  • Gateway restarts (openclaw gateway restart)
  • System updates (openclaw update)
  • Configuration changes requiring restart
  • Process crashes or unexpected interruptions

Core principle: Save before risky operations, automatically resume after.

When to Use This Skill

Before these operations:

  • openclaw gateway restart
  • openclaw update
  • openclaw config apply
  • Any system-level change that might interrupt the session

After these events:

  • Session unexpectedly ends during a task
  • Gateway/service restarts while working
  • Return from a long pause (> 1 hour)

Quick Start

1. Save State Before Risky Operation

This creates:

  • ~/.openclaw/workspace/state/latest.json - Current task state
  • ~/.openclaw/workspace/state/grok-analysis.json - Named checkpoint

2. Schedule Recovery & Execute Restart (按需 Cron 模式)

Automatic Recovery Flow

On startup/heartbeat:

  2. If exists and < 1 hour old:
    • Read context

    • Delete state file (prevent re-recovery)
  3. If > 1 hour old: Treat as stale, delete without recovery
