Setup snapshot

git clone https://github.com/AnyiWang/agent-doc-lint.git
  1. 1

Setup complexity is LOW. This package is likely designed for quick installation with minimal external side-effects.

  2. 2

Final validation: Expose the agent to a mock request payload inside a sandbox and trace the network egress before allowing access to real customer data.

Doc Lint — Agent-Assisted Splitting & Lint

| Invocation | Mode | Phases | |-----------|------|--------| | /doc-lint | Quick | Scan docs → Analyze placement → Report → Execute | | /doc-lint --full | Full | Scan docs + code → Accuracy check → Analyze → Report → Execute |

Quick mode: routine maintenance on existing docs. Full mode: deep audit including code comparison.

Phase 1: Scan

  1. Read instruction file(s) — full content of each CLAUDE.md / AGENTS.md. Parse into sections by ## / ###.
  2. Read existing skills — read every SKILL.md in full. If >15 skills, read all frontmatter first, then full content for the 15 most code-facing; list skipped skills and mark coverage as partial in the report.
  3. --full only: Scan project structurels top-level source dirs (max 5; ask user before more).
  4. Dual-platform — if both CLAUDE.md and AGENTS.md exist, analyze each independently.

Phase 2: Accuracy Check (--full only)

Compare instruction file and skills against current code:

  • New modules/features not documented? (Compare ls output vs documented modules.)
  • Removed/renamed references still in docs? (Spot-check 3-5 references.)
  • Outdated counts in inline code? (Use doc-check.mjs output + manual check.)
  • Stale type fields? (Pick 2-3 types, verify fields match code.)
  • Skills spot-check: pick 2-3 code-facing skills, verify 2-3 facts each.

Output issues in Phase 4 report: [STALE] for factual errors that need fixing, [OBSERVE] for notable findings that may not require action.

Phase 3: Analyze Placement

Protected sections — NEVER move (requires BOTH keyword + section type):

| Section type | Keyword signals | |-------------|----------------| | Build/run instructions | cargo, npm, make, docker, build, dev | | Pre-commit / CI checklist | pre-commit, before committing, CI | | Coding conventions | convention, style, naming, strict mode | | Debugging methodology | debug, triage, diagnose, troubleshoot | | Behavioral rules (prescriptive only) | must, never, always, do not, forbidden, required | | Hard constraints | Domain-specific invariants where violation causes silent failures |

Descriptive mentions of "always"/"must" (e.g., "the API always returns JSON") are NOT protected.

Splitting triggers — for non-protected sections:

| Trigger | Detection | Action | |---------|-----------|--------| | Reference table | Markdown table > 10 rows | Move to skill, leave summary + pointer | | Hardcoded count | Flagged by doc-check.mjs | Replace with query command | | Static file tree | ├── or └── characters | Replace with module map + query | | Duplication | Same content substantively explained in BOTH instruction file and a skill (cite specific overlapping lines) | Keep in one place, pointer in the other | | Scope-specific | Only one subsystem, removable without affecting other work | Move to dedicated skill | | File too long | >300 lines after above | Extract more scope-specific sections |

Partial coverage rule: if skills were partially scanned (>15), do NOT propose [MOVE] to topics that overlap with unread skills. Mark those as [NEEDS REVIEW] instead.

Duplication allowed pattern: A brief summary + "See /skill-name" pointer in the instruction file is NOT duplication — this is the expected pattern after splitting. Only flag duplication when both places contain substantive explanations of the same concept.

Existing skills: check frontmatter completeness, description quality, duplication with instruction file.

Phase 4: Report & Confirm

Do NOT make changes until the user approves. Output:

## Splitting Plan
- Mode: quick | full | Coverage: full | partial
- Date: YYYY-MM-DD | Commit: `git rev-parse --short HEAD`

### Accuracy Issues (--full only)
- [STALE] ... (docs factually wrong, needs update)
- [OBSERVE] ... (notable finding, may not need action)

### Protected
- [KEEP] "## Build & Run" — build commands

### Proposed Changes
1. [MOVE] "## Section" (lines X-Y) → `.claude/skills/name/SKILL.md`
   - Reason: ... | Replacement: summary + pointer
2. [REPLACE] file:line: "85 commands" → `query command`
3. [DUP] file1:lines ↔ file2:lines — same concept explained in both (quote the overlapping text)
4. [UPDATE] `.claude/skills/name/SKILL.md`: stale field ...
5. [NEEDS REVIEW] "## Section" — overlaps with unscanned skill (partial coverage)

### Lint
- [WARN/FAIL] ...

### Summary
- Lines: before → after | New skills: N | Updated: N | Protected: N

Wait for explicit user approval before proceeding.

Phase 5: Execute & Verify

  1. Fix accuracy issues (--full only) — update stale references, counts, types.
  2. Create new skills — target path from approved plan (.claude/skills/ or .codex/skills/).
  3. Update instruction file — replace moved sections, hardcoded counts, file trees. Dual-platform: per-file changes.
  4. Update existing skills — fix duplication, add moved content.
  5. Verify — run doc-check.mjs and show diff summary (files changed, before/after line counts).
